Cambridge Land Economy interview prep, built by a Cambridge student.

Archway is a free toolkit for Land Economy applicants: a college-by-college interview guide, a personal statement analyser, live interview practice and progress tracking.

Four tools, one place to prepare.

Interview guide

The guide the internet couldn’t give you.

Anonymised first-hand accounts from real Cambridge Land Economy interviews, mapped to each college’s Director of Studies and their research specialisms. Search by topic to see which colleges focus on it and what the interviews actually look like.

Interview guide

PS analyser

Your statement, read the way your interviewer will read it.

Paste your personal statement. The AI generates the specific questions a Cambridge DoS would ask based on exactly what you’ve written, not a generic prep list. Every question is tied to a claim you’ve made.

PS analyser
“The work of Weitzman on the social discount rate led me to question whether standard cost-benefit analysis can adequately capture our obligations to future generations...”
Academic probing
“Can you explain, in economic rather than moral terms, what justifies a near-zero discount rate?”
Critical thinking
“If we adopt Weitzman’s position, don’t we create an unlimited obligation to invest in any long-run intervention?”

Interview questions

State a claim. Get challenged.

State a position on any topic. The AI challenges it the way a Cambridge DoS would, one sharp question at a time, following the argument wherever you take it. Not a quiz. A conversation.

Interview questions
You
Higher house prices are generally bad for society.
Cambridge DoS
Who specifically is made worse off? And are they worse off in absolute terms, or only relative to those who already own?
You
Renters, because they face rising costs without building equity.
Cambridge DoS
Does that hold if rising rents also reflect rising wages in the same areas?

Founded at Cambridge.

Land Economy is one of Cambridge’s most genuinely multidisciplinary degrees, spanning economics, law and geography. Interview preparation for it was scattered, expensive and hard to find.

Archway exists to change that. The interview guide, the PS analyser and the practice questions are all free, and all built from direct experience of the process.

About Archway

A free Cambridge Land Economy interview prep platform.

The problem

Cambridge Land Economy interviews are unpredictable. Each college runs them differently, and there was no free, reliable way to find out what each one focuses on.

Why it exists

Built by a first-year Land Economy student at Cambridge who wanted to improve accessibility. The kind of preparation that used to require expensive tutors, made free for anyone going through the process.

Ground rules

Free, always. Unofficial and unaffiliated with the University of Cambridge. Always verify details directly with your college.

First impression
The PS shows strong engagement with economic theory. References to specific economists are precise enough that an interviewer will probe whether the understanding is genuine.
